MEA’s Current Board of Directors is rapidly making changes in the operation of
Alaska’s oldest and second-largest electric co-op.
Because the new Board has taken control of the Powerlines newsletter and
public information efforts, Friends of MEA is dedicated to informing the
Member-Owners of our Cooperative. Armed with the True Facts about the
activities of the current Board Majority, MEA Members will be able to
make informed decisions in the upcoming board election.
Unfortunately, the majority of the current MEA Board lacks the
experience needed to run an electric utility that has an annual budget of more than $100 million.
Yet, they have inserted themselves in a position to direct the
overall management of our utility. Despite his high performance ratings
over the past 14 years, they refused to extend the contract of the
General Manager—a manager who has responded to member desires to keep
rates low and service reliable.
Reckless actions by this new board majority will only increase rates.
Our members must keep themselves informed and get MEA back on track.
